When the last Skreamizm came out, most of today’s current festivalgoers still rode the school bus.
Out now is the eighth chapter in Skream’s long-running Skreamizm series. Following its seventh installment all the way back in 2012, the pioneering producer revived the series over a decade later with his transformative sounds.
Opening up with “HIT,” Skream sets the mood with a dark and chilling track that uses faraway, echoing cries, a supermassive basslin, and pounding drums to knock the headphones off your ears. The first of a handful of collaborations, “Funky Sailor” is a delight to longtime fans as Skream reunites with Trim, who was featured on “Tweedle Dee, Tweedle DUMB!” from Skreamizm Vol. 6 all the way back in 2011.
Skream embraces a futuristic aesthetic dripping with neon on tracks like “Devon Analogue Raver,” “Wierd Minimal” (with Bklava) and “Your Love” with (Lagoon Wavey) while “My Body,” “Roy The Boy” and “The Flute Track” bring forth sounds for fans who want a little more edge. The rest of the remarkable album is rounded out by the introspective and motivating trio of “Not Ready Yet” and the previously released singles “Thinking of You” and “Waiheke Island” with (Prospa).

Prior to the release of Skreamizm Vol. 8, the legendary producer shared some behind-the-scenes videos answering questions about his prolific career and the new album. In these short but detailed videos, Skream answers a number of his fans’ burning questions.
Considering his role in the evolution of dubstep, he answered one of the most common questions about his career’s trajectory: “Why did Skream stop making dubstep?” Skream shared that his relationship with the genre is “like having a child you don’t recognize anymore” and that he takes full responsibility, adding that he is “one of the people that helped push it into a position [he] didn’t like.”
